Small scales patchiness of phytoplankton biomass was the area around a single sampling station on a freshwater lake (Charnwood Water. Loughborough. between October l978 and October 1981. Patchiness in zooplankton and nutrients was also investigated. Data were initially examined by one-way analysis of variance in order to separate actual variation from measurement error.
