The influence of surface tension in solids on the propagation of Rayleigh elastic surface waves is investigated. It is shown that surface tension imparts dispersion to the Rayleigh wave velosity, an effect that can be used for the experimental determination of both the relative variations of the surface tension under various external effects and its absolute value.
