Use of trichlorophenylsilane in the synthesis of polymeric precursors for silicon carbide

of ceramic materials is generating a great deal of
interest, and silicon carbide (SiC) has been
produced by the pyrolysis of several polymers.
However, it is desirable to develop precursors that
can be prepared with a high polymer yield, are melt-processable,
and give a high SiC yield on pyrolysis
close to the theoretical maximum that can be
obtained (with a low amount of impurities).
