The purpose of the three studies reported in this thesis was to compare and contrast some of the physiological and metabolic responses to prolonged steady pace treadmill running in male and female distance runners. The primary aim was to investigate the possible role of gender and ovarian steroid hormones on the choice of energy substrate during endurance-type exercise. [Continues.]
