The appearance of a proposed infrastructure development is an important issue, especially for the local community, so environmental assessments should include careful consideration of likely visual impacts of development projects and propose ways to mitigate against them. Quantifying visual impact is often subjective and will literally depend on the viewpoint of individuals. This booklet introduces the main factors that need to be considered in making a visual impact assessment.
