The development and construction of a versatile vibrating-sample magnetometer

constructed. The design was based on the concept of a vibrating sample
magnetometer originally suggested by S. Foner. A novel pick-up coil
arrangement has been installed which minimises noise arising from
mechanical vibrations of the magnet assembly or lateral movements of
