The development of management systems in a contracting organization

This research has established the current 'best practice' and theory in relation to human resource management (HRM) and quality management. This has been achieved through a review of relevant documentation and textbooks, together with discussions with professionals from other organizations. On completing the initial research, the data was compared with the systems, procedures and documentation in place within a contracting organization employing 120 people and having a sales turnover of approximately £16 million per annum. On the basis of this comparison, the difference between the theoretical data and the company data was established, and suggestions for improving and modifying the company's systems were made. The process of completing this research has enabled the author to identify the key procedures and systems required, within a contracting organization of the size discussed, to effectively operate HRM and quality management systems. The company had not formally introduced a comprehensive HRM system, and as a result any recommendations made through this research require implementation; however the author introduced a large element of the quality system, and as a result this has been validated through this research programme.
