Development of hybrid PV-Wind system for academic purposes

The need of develop, organize and establish guidelines about renewable energy education, mainly at university level, have been studied in several papers. Investigation facility has been developed in this work, at University Energy Laboratory, to create options for evaluate the performance improvements of Photovoltaic-Wind hybrid systems. This research facility is the first step of the investigation program to develop the required infrastructures that allow investigating and developing optimization strategies to renewable energy systems technology, in the specific weather conditions of the Mexican Eastern. A customized control interface has been created using control and data acquisition graphical software programmed in VisualBasic programming language. This paper presents an outline of design and development of PVWind hybrid energy generation system and characterization system, carried out with academic purposes, in Engineering Faculty of Autonomous University of Yucatan, Mexico.
