This submission describes the sustained, substantial and original
technological contributions by Dr. R. Vitols over more than 30 years
to innovation in manipulative processes and machines through research,
invention and design.
The application commences with some background information on the
candidate and details of his education. This is followed by lists of
grants and contracts (totalling well over £lm) on which Dr. Vitols has
been the principal innovator and designer at Loughborough University
of Technology. A list of his current research activities brings the
situation up to date.
The main part of the submission contains a chrorological commentary on
the more important contributions to research and innovation by
19 designs of machines for fulfilling market needs, which resulted
from his industrial activities, between 1956 and 1968, have been
highlighted. The exploitation of these machines within the textile
and packaging industries has been protected by 11 published patents
and 5 applications for patents. Copies are included of the published
patents along with photographs of 10 machines.
