Abstract: A heterogeneous substrate is designed when the permittivity of a substrate is changed as a function of location. Due to non-uniformity of the electric fields in a patch, loading of different areas with heterogeneous dielectrics can change behavior. In this paper heterogeneous substrates are employed to increase the bandwidth of a patch by combining its first and second resonance.
