Abstract: Written by a team of international scholars, the seventeen essays in this book aim collectively at critically reflecting on the historical genesis of modern racism, from its constitution in early modernity, and its systematization in the Enlightenment period, to various forms of its popularization in modern society. This structure derives from the work of Wulf D. Hund, to whom this edited collection is dedicated. Inspired by his analysis of racialised discourses in European thought and global history, the book shows modern racism to be a mode of a negative societalisation.
