In 1981 the Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) awarded the Department of Civil Engineering at Loughborough University of Technology a three-year research grant to investigate aspects of production for road paving, bulk excavation, drainage, concreting, reinforcement, joinery, structural steelwork and precast concrete operations. This article by A.D. Price of Loughborough University provides an introduction to the SERC report on concreting and presents an extract from the output data together with a discussion on some of the findings relating to current site efficiency.
