Abstract: Two of the most efficient techniques for coding video signals are transform coding and differential pulse code modulation. Both systems have been used successfully for coding pictorial data, and of course each system has its own advantages and limitations. Hybrid coding (a combination of the two techniques) embodies the most attractive features of both. It is simple in implementation and achieves a good degree of data compression. [Continues.]
