Abstract: The techniques for identifying or describing the trend of data sequences generally rely on fitting either globally or locally piecewise, a low order polynomial to the observations. For data sequences containing trend with random and/or oscillatory movement the choice of the trend descriptor relies more on experience than technique. [Continues.]
