The post-war development has transformed Plymouth into one of the finest cities in the country. In this thesis I examine the attracting of fresh industry into the City and the growth and development of Plymouth as an industrial location, I have attempted to show the part played by Plymouth City Council together with the Board of Trade, why it has been necessary for Plymouth to expand industrially, the reasons why various companies have chosen to operate in Plymouth and the effects of these new concerns on the population and general development of the area.
