This report describes studies concerning bridged isoquinolines and related compounds, Four aspects have been studied, Firstly, Diels-Alder reactions between heterarynes and different dienes have been carried out to provide 5,8-bridged isoquinolines. The reaction between 2,5,6-trichloro-3,4-pyridyne and p-diisopropyl benzene thus led to 1,3,4-trichloro-5,8-dihydro-6,9-diisopropyl-5,8-ethenoisoquinoline but only in 18% yield. Studies involving other heterarynes in Diels-Alder processes have been made. [Continues.]
