Abstract: It is the aim of the research discussed in this thesis to provide an understanding of some of the conceptual processes and cognitive models involved in information storage and retrieval, especially with respect to the long term storage of information in memory. The context is one of making recommendations which can contribute to the future development of computerised information storage and retrieval systems for use by the non-computer professional in the office environment.
