Abstract: In September 1985 a survey questionnaire was administered to 315 fourth year girls at eight all-through comprehensive schools in a large city in the Midlands. The questionnaire was divided into six sections: the self-perceptions of fourth year girls on selected variables; the self-reported levels of encouragement received from 8 significant others; the activities particularly enjoyed and disliked on the PE curriculum; the perceptions of fourth year girls on their female PE teacher; extra-curricular involvement in physical education; the participation of fourth year girls in physical activity outside school.
