Abstract: Laser-induced damage caused by the interaction of intense optical radiation with matter is one of the most serious problems encountered in the operation and design of high-energy laser systems. The most widely used technique to detect damage is to simply irradiate and visually inspect the sample for signs of damage. This method although valuable does not provide real-time damage monitoring and has limited quantitative capabilities. [Continues.]
