This thesis describes the computer modelling of an echo-sounder system used in fish abundance measurement. Some years ago, Griffiths and Smith established a computer model of a typical sonar system which was used to try to evaluate the accuracy with which the number of targets could be estimated using the integrated energy from the output of the system. However, the model was fairly simple and did not take into account some important factors such as fish behaviour which may have a significant effect on the estimates. This project has taken these factors into account and has attempted to extend the earlier computer model. [Continues.]
