Abstract: The following paper attempts to provide a case study of financing for the water sector in Ethiopia. The paper will, in particular, focus on the water and sanitation sector, since this sector has come to be financed from a very wide variety of sources and, in response, is now undertaking the challenging transition from a project to a programmatic approach. As such, it is hoped that the recent experience of the water and sanitation sector in Ethiopia can provide a number of important lessons for enhancing sustainable financing in donor-intensive environments.
