Voltammetric procedures have been developed for the determination of four antioxidants, hydroquinone, butylated hydroxytoluene, butylated hydroxyanisole and n-propyl gallate. The methods are based on the electrochemical oxidation of these antioxidants at a glassy carbon electrode in 1 M acetate buffer in 90% methanol. The mechanism of the oxidation is discussed. These methods are applicable with good precision to quality control applications in the range 1 to 1000 μg ml-1. [Continues.]
