Studies of beta-lactam degradation

The work discussed in this thesis falls into six parts. The first part (Chapter 1) is an introduction which deals with the history, structure, nomenclature and chemistry of beta-lactam antibiotics. Some relevant analytical techniques which have been reported in the literature are discussed with particular emphasis on those which are commonly used for quality control or for following the degradation of beta-lactam antibiotics. The approach to this work is outlined. [Continues.]
