The crystal structures of certain organic disulphides
thesis
posted on 2018-06-27, 10:48 authored by M.W.R. BryantAn X-ray crystallographic investigation into the structures
of a number of organic disulphides has been undertaken. The
crystal structures of diphenyl disulphide, dibenzyl disulphide,
2,2'diamino diphenyl disulphide and dicinnamyl disulphide have
been determined accurately from three-dimensional data. The results
of preliminary investigations on p,p'dicarbethoxy diphenyl disulphide,
p,p'dinitro diphenyl disulphide, p,p'dimethyl diphenyl disulphide,
p,p'diamino diphenyl dioulphide and p,p'ditertiary butyl diphenyl
disulphide arc also reported.
The function of organic disulphides as anti-wear and as
extreme pressure additives to lubricating oils is related to the
S–S and S–C bond lengths and to the dihedral angles. The observed
S–S and S–C distances and dihedral angles are discussed in this
context.
