Feedings of Trichoderma viride with ring-tritiated aromatic amino-acids have shown that m-tyrosine is not an obligatory precursor of gliotoxin and that during conversion of phenylalanine into gliotoxin, neither loss nor migration of the ring protons occurs. A phenylalanine epoxide intermediate is proposed. [Continues.]
