The analytical chemistry of o,o'-dihydroxydiphenyl sulphides and methanes

The formation of a number of metal complexes of the o,o'-dihydroxydiphenyl methane and sulphides, hexachlorophene, bithionol end fenticlor have been investigated, and their stability constants determined in 3+1 v-v ethanol–water solution at ionic strength one. The proton-ligand stability constants of dichlorophene, bromchlorophene and tetrachlorophene have also been determined under these conditions. A solvent extraction procedure has been developed for the calorimetric determination of iron(III) with bithionol as reagent. The use of bithionol as a gravimetric reagent for mercury(II) has been investigated, but the reproducibility of recoveries obtained for similar samples was generally poor. [Continues.]
