The thesis is concerned with the study of the effects of squish on the turbulence structure in the combustion chamber of a spark ignition engine. Existing hot wire anemometry calibration techniques have been studied and an improved version developed. A data acquisition and processing system has been developed whereby the raw data is digitised and processed by a Hewlett Packard computer, thus making possible the analysis of a large number of cycles.
