Abstract: This paper focuses on the role of the teacher in creating an effective climate for design and technology. In it I detail argument about necessary qualities of the role and explore how these understandings were gained through reflection on personal practice. I draw its findings from an extensive piece of research carried out in four schools over five years. Findings include commentary on teaching characteristics and teacher child interactions.
